Dawnyéa has always had a passion for health. During college, she worked for Planned Parenthood of Maryland in various capacities to educate youth about sexual health and to promote healthy and responsible decision making. Her passion branched into mental health, leading Dawnyéa to pursue a degree in therapy to help individuals, couples, and families enrich and repair their relationships. After her clinical therapy program, Dawnyéa yearned for a larger reach and bigger impact and decided to pursue a degree in public health.

Dawnyéa earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Science and a Master of Science degree in Couple and Family Therapy from University of Maryland, College Park. She also earned a PhD in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior from University of South Carolina. For her dissertation research she led the development, implementation, and evaluation of a mobile application intervention designed to decrease sexual risk behaviors among college students. Prior to joining Rescue, Dawnyéa was an ORISE Fellow at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). She also previously managed large-scale research and evaluation projects for military populations that focused on decreasing sexual risk behaviors, intimate partner violence, and alcohol and tobacco related harms. Dawnyéa is excited to be part of the research team at Rescue and looks forward to contributing to the mission of making health behaviors easier and more appealing.

A Baltimore native, Dawnyéa loves going to Baltimore Ravens football games. When she’s not at work, she also enjoys getting cozy on the couch with a good book, watching reality TV, and trying new restaurants.
